[Sinfonian News] NYC Alumni Announcements by dlr213 April 17, 2010, 11:31:06 PM
Sinfonian News Brothers,

Our next meeting will be more of a social event than a meeting.  It will be Monday, May 10th, at 7:30 pm in Bryant Park, behind the New York Public Library between 5th and 6th Avenues at 42nd Street.  Please bring a football, Frisbee or whatever you like.  There are several food and drink vendors nearby and hopefully we’ll have great weather.  In case of Inclement weather, we will move to MERCURY BAR, on 9th Avenue near 46th Street.  Non-Alumni Collegiates from Province 1 are welcome and encouraged to attend.

As for notes from our April Meeting, the following was discussed:

1)  COMMUNICATION continues to be an issue.  We are working to resolve this by more e-mails on the listserv, as well as the creation of a Twitter Account (details to follow).  Also- Can Brother Spencer contact me regarding the NYSINFONIA.ORG website and the NYCAA@NYSINFONIA.ORG Listserv?  We are interested in finding out exactly how these are managed and if there is any possibility of adding a local (NYC area) administrator to them?

2)  MANHATTAN COLLEGE SINGING – Turned out to be a flop.  Miscommunication led to one brother showing up to a canceled rehearsal and nobody showed to the subsequent rehearsals.  Therefore, nothing happened.  We talked about why this happened.  Again – communication came up as an issue, as well as some brothers not necessarily being interested in doing something requiring a tuxedo.  There is STILL interest in doing musical things – but we all agreed that logistics of rehearsals and the time commitment of rehearsals remain a challenge.  Feedback? Anyone reading this?  Please hit reply and give us your thoughts!

3)  BROOKLYN BOWL – Brother CJ Glass will be performing at Brooklyn Bowl on Tuesday, July 27th.  This is a venue that provides bowling and live music.  The cost is $20 per lane per half hour ($80 for two hours) and that rate is good for up to eight bowlers on the lane.  That’s $10 per person for 2-hours of bowling if all eight participate.  Shoe rental is $4 per person.  For more information, visit http://www.brooklynbowl.com .  We will discuss this at our April and June Meetings to try and see if there is enough interest in attending.  The tough part is that it is a weekday evening when everyone has work, and it is located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

4) IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB – Again, Brother CJ Glass will be performing at the Iridum Jazz Club.  The performance is Saturday night, May 22nd,  at MIDNIGHT.  We talked about inviting collegiate brothers from Province 1 to come into the city, spend an evening – go to the late show – then crash with Alumni brothers before heading home Sunday as a weekend event.  Tickets are $20, and I don’t know if there are any drink minimums.  I am soliciting feedback on this idea – Please it reply to all and give us your thoughts on the listserv.  We will discuss this again and try to finalize plans (IF there is interest expressed) at the May meeting.

5)  PROVINCE 1 RITUAL & NEW GOVERNOR – Thanks to Eric Englehardt, Dave Roush, Dave Goss and Tom Ubriaco for attending this weekend’s Ritual.  Also – congratulations to Eric on his installation as Deputy Province Governor.  He will take over for David Goss as Province 1 Governor when David Leaves later this summer for a new opportunity in Florida!

Watch for my next e-mail concerning our TWITTER ACCOUNT!

In Brotherhood,

Dave Roush, President
New York City Alumni Association

[Sinfonian News] NYCAAA on Twitter! by dlr213 April 17, 2010, 11:32:12 PM
Sinfonian News Brothers,

The New York City Area Alumni Assocation, in an attempt to improve communication with our membership and POTENTIAL members, has created a Twitter Account.  Please take a moment to visit http://www.twitter.com/PMA_NYC_Alumni

Please read the section that applies to you:

IF YOU ALREADY ARE A TWITTER USER… please follow PMA_NYC_Alumni for updates on our meetings, social events,  performances, networking and job opportunities.  If you have linked your Twitter account to your cellphone, Please consider selecting “Mobile Following,” (it’s the tiny phone icon that appears next to the “Following” designation).  This means whenever we send out urgent announcements, you’ll receive them immediately as a text message on your cellphone.

IF YOU HAVE NEVER USED TWITTER BEFORE… You have two options for utilizing the Twitter page.  The First, is to simply bookmark http://www.twitter.com/PMA_NYC_Alumni and visit it anytime you want to see the latest announcements.  A BETTER option is to visit www.twitter.com and sign up for a new account.  It’s free and easy.  Once you have established your account, visit the address above and click “Follow.”  Then click the small cell phone next to the “following” designation.  This means that whenever an important announcement is sent out by the Association, you will receive it as a Text message on your cell phone.

I sincerely hope we will get a TON of followers and this will help drum-up interest in what’s happening with our Alumni and Collegiate brothers in the New York City metro area.  Please RETWEET our announcements and spread the word to your friends, neighbors and chapters… we want to see you get involved with Big Apple Alumni!

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at david.roush@psualum.com
